Project Overview

Data Privacy and Security in the Workplace is a self-initiated demo course created in Articulate 360 suite to showcase my instructional design approach for corporate learning environments. The course focuses on helping employees recognize data privacy risks and apply secure behaviors in everyday workplace scenarios.

Because proprietary training materials cannot be shared publicly, this project was intentionally designed as original, non-confidential content that reflects realistic organizational challenges while remaining suitable for portfolio use.

Design Approach

This course was designed using a behavior-centered instructional strategy, based on the understanding that many data privacy incidents result from routine employee decisions rather than technical system failures. Instead of emphasizing policy memorization, the training prioritizes awareness, judgment, and application.

The course follows a structured learning progression:

1. Establishing why data privacy and security matter

2. Defining data types and sensitivity levels

3. Applying proper data handling practices

4. Recognizing phishing and social engineering threats

5. Managing security risks in remote and shared work environments

This scaffolded structure supports comprehension, retention, and real-world transfer of learning.

Research & Rationale

The instructional decisions in this project were informed by widely accepted corporate compliance training practices and industry research emphasizing the human factor in data security incidents. Research consistently shows that scenario-based learning and timely feedback are more effective than passive content in reducing risky behaviors.

Based on this insight, the course design incorporates:

• Microlearning to reduce cognitive load and improve retention

• Realistic workplace scenarios to encourage decision-making practice

• Varied assessment types (multiple choice, multiple response, true/false, fill-in-the-blank) to validate understanding

• Immediate feedback to reinforce correct behaviors and correct misconceptions

Each lesson includes a focused knowledge check, followed by a comprehensive final assessment to confirm mastery.
